Winning design by NTA Projects and Farjadi Architects acting jointly as Tollington Projects, in a developer led 2 stage tender, organized by LB of Islington. Designed as an urban block around two squares; the first surrounded by an Art and Community Centre with the Tower Theatre in the Grade II listed old Laundry and Gatehouse, a visual arts gallery, workshops and studios, a multi-media art centre (an extension of the Queensland Multi-Media Art Centre)and a landscaped open-air performance space, the amphitheatre covering the new swimming pool, which is part of a health and fitness club and integrated multi-sensory treatment center; the second square is bordered by offices, new build private residential units, social housing for the Solon CHS housing association, live/work units for the Mace Self-build 2000 co-operative group, a nursery and playgroup, and a youth club for the local community. Architectural design services to RIBA stage C. Estimated construction cost £ 25m in 2001.
